Frequently Asked Questions
Â
How does Bossed Up Records distribution work?
Pick your plan on the Distribution Portal, submit your release through our form, and we handle the rest — quality check, delivery to 480+ stores and streaming platforms worldwide, and your royalty dashboard. You keep 100% of your master royalties. We charge 0% commission.
What do I need to submit a release?
Your audio as a WAV file (no MP3s), cover art at exactly 3000 x 3000 pixels, and your release details — artist name, track titles, and credits. If anything doesn't meet store requirements, we'll tell you exactly what to fix.
How far ahead should I submit my release?
At least 14 days before your release date. If you want your release pitched for editorial playlists (Elite members), submit at least 30 days ahead.
Plans & Pricing
What plans do you offer?
Four annual plans: Boss Like ($14.99/year, one single), Boss Moves ($24.99/year, one EP of 2 to 4 tracks), Bossed Up ($99.99/year, unlimited releases for one artist brand), and Bossed Up Elite ($249.99/year, unlimited releases plus mastering, Vevo, cover-song clearances, and playlist pitching). Every plan keeps 100% of your master royalties.
Do you offer monthly plans?
No. All Bossed Up plans are annual — one payment, a full year of distribution.
What happens when my plan year ends?
Plans lapse unless renewed. If a plan expires without renewal, your catalog may be taken down, or kept live under a 15% administrative maintenance fee until you renew or close the account. Renew before your date and nothing changes.
Can I get a refund?
Fees are non-refundable once a submission or order has been processed — the one exception is Bossed Up Collaborations: if the featured artist declines your song, your $150 is refunded in full.
Royalties & Payouts
When do I get paid?
Stores report and pay on a 30-to-90-day delay — streams from January typically land in your account around March or April. Once your balance reaches the $10 minimum, you can withdraw it.
How do royalty splits work?
You can split royalties with producers, featured artists, and engineers. Each collaborator gets an invitation to set up their own payout account, and their share pays out to them directly and automatically.
Does Bossed Up collect all of my royalties?
We collect the recording royalties the stores pay on your releases. Performance and mechanical royalties collected by organizations like ASCAP, The MLC, and SoundExchange are separate and pay registered songwriters and rights holders directly — when you sign with us, we walk you through getting registered so no money gets left behind.
Unlimited Drops
What is Unlimited Drops?
Members on the Boss Moves, Bossed Up, and Elite plans can submit additional releases through the Unlimited Drops page at no extra distribution charge while their plan is active.
Why was my drop not processed?
The email on your drop submission must match the email on your active plan exactly. If the emails don't match, or the plan has lapsed, the drop can't be processed.
Mastering
How does the mastering service work?
Order on the Mastering page and upload your track. A professional human engineer masters it by ear — no AI, no presets. You get a preview within 3 to 5 business days; approve it or use your one free revision, and your final master is delivered as a WAV.
How much does mastering cost?
$100 per track. Bossed Up Elite members have mastering included in their plan.
Collaborations
How do Bossed Up Collaborations work?
Book a verse on the Collaborations page, upload your track with the space open where the verse goes, and a Bossed Up artist writes and records your verse. You preview and approve it — one revision included — and the final verse is delivered as a WAV within 5 to 7 business days.
How much does a feature verse cost?
$150 flat. The featured artist also keeps 25% of the master royalties for the life of the record, set up as a royalty split when you release the song — you keep 75%, and the artist is credited as "feat." on your release.
Which artists can I book?
Bossi Boss and JoneZ are available now. More Bossed Up artists will be added as they opt in.
What if the artist doesn't want to do my song?
Every song is subject to the artist's approval. If the artist passes, your $150 is refunded in full.
Support
How do I contact Bossed Up Records?
Use the Contact page — pick your reason (distribution, mastering, booking, or business), and we'll get back to you at the email you provide. Plan members get priority email support.
I referred another artist. Do I get anything?
Yes — refer an artist who signs up, and you get 3 months free added to your plan. Months stack with every referral. Your account must be active to earn referral credits.
